What to Expect at Your Cat's First In-Home Grooming Visit

Booking your cat's first professional grooming appointment can feel like a step into the unknown. The good news is that I come to you — grooming happens right in your own home, where your cat is most comfortable. Here's a clear walkthrough of what to expect.

Before I Arrive

There's very little you need to do to prepare. It helps to set aside a quiet space with some room to work, away from other pets and household noise. If your cat has any health conditions, sensitivities, or behavioral concerns, let me know when you book. The more I understand about your cat ahead of time, the smoother the visit will be.

The Initial Assessment

When I arrive, I'll start with a brief check of your cat's coat and skin. I look for matting, dryness, signs of irritation, and any sensitive areas. This assessment helps me decide on the right approach and gives us a chance to talk through any concerns you have.

The Grooming Process

A typical visit may include brushing, bathing, drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and a coat trim if needed. Because we're in your cat's familiar environment, many cats stay calmer than they would in an unfamiliar salon. I work at a pace that suits your cat's temperament, taking breaks whenever necessary.

After the Appointment

Once grooming is complete, I'll let you know how your cat did and share any recommendations for at-home care between visits. This might include brushing tips or a suggested schedule for future appointments.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

It's normal for a first visit to take a little longer as your cat adjusts to the process. Every cat is different, and I never force it. With each visit, most cats grow more comfortable and relaxed.
